With the introduction of the Covid 19 lockdown in April 2020, Unity Radio, Manchester Hip Hop Archive & other cultural organisations across Greater Manchester were committed to finding new creative ways we could stay connected and provide meaningful activities & opportunities for the young people we work with.
The initiative, led by Greater Manchester Combined Authority, called for organisations to submit ideas for a collaborative activity book that would be distributed to 22,000 young people across the 10 boroughs.
As well as keeping young people connected to each organisation in the absence of face-to-face contact, each activity would also provide opportunities for young people to reflect on their mental well being, with activities encouraging communication & staying active.
The contribution from Manchester Hip Hop Archive & Unity Radio included an opportunity for young people to make their own 3D mixtape and reflect on the impact of music in our day to day lives. As well as providing creative templates inspired by the archive collection, Unity Radio also provided a physical CD mixtape featuring exclusive tracks from talented & emerging artists from across Greater Manchester.
The CD also features a bonus track ‘Struggles’ from Hasbo & D.G which explores the topic of county lines from a young person’s perspective.
