This July, Unity Radio, champions the elements of Hip Hop culture, celebrating Rap Music, Graffiti Art , BBOY skills and Turntablism, with weekly on-air and digital features in, ‘Rap Week’, ‘Graffiti City’, ‘Rock on’ BBoy’s + BGirls, and ‘Cut N Scratch’ week’s as we launch Unity’s Hip Hop Month.
Join DJ Vital on a special Hip Hop breakfast takeover at 7am Monday 6th of July, running all week to Friday the 10th. Expect to hear Big Beats and bigger basslines as Vital cuts up the biggest Hip Hop anthems with Classic gems from Hip Hop’s golden era.

Unity Radio’s Hip Hop Digi Factory, and Bare Noize Records, welcomed KRS One to the Unity Hangar, in a celebration of Hip Hop Culture, hosted by Unity’s DJ Roesh, alongside music students, and the City’s finest BBOYs and Graffiti writers, all keen to hear from the Rap legend as he shared, ‘The Truth about Hip Hop’.
In this first episode, Lawrence Parker, AKA Blast Master KRS One, talks about ‘Defining Moments’ in his life as, he shares a first-hand account and concise history of Hip Hop, including the socio-political circumstances surrounding New York’s Black youth community which, gave birth to the urban creativity and expression, which would eventually spread across the world like wildfire.
KRS One, recounts his childhood , the famous block party’s held by Kool Herc, his meeting and union with Youth Worker Scott Sterling, who he met as a homeless man on the streets, and the fall of Boogie Down Productions following the labels disappointment at sales of ‘Sex and Violence’. KRS One, also goes on to pay homage to real Hip Hoppers, such as Guru and DJ Premier, who embraced the sound of Boom Bap and which brought a resurgence in Graffiti and BBOY community’s, shedding a mainstream spotlight on NYC, in the face of West Coast fever.
