This week on Unity Radio’s Breakfast Show with Jasper Hopkins we will be delving deep in to alternative genres than we would normally house, however the level of talent is unchanged. We partially steer away from rap and hip hop for this week and bring you some of the foremost talent the city has to offer from outside of the world of hip hop. You can tune in from 7:30am til 10am Monday to Thursday to hear our very own Jasper chat to exciting artists from Manchester.
Firstly, on Tuesday, Jasper will be sitting down with the lovely Amber Prothero. Amber is a pop-soul artist who mainly opposites out of Manchester and the capital, she will be chatting to Jasper about her recent release in “Confident” – a groove laden and beautifully harmonised 6 song suite. Amber expertly paints vivid soundscapes with her beautifully toned voice and subsequent harmony, riddled over smooth and tropical sounding production. The results of her talents make for an easy to listen to neo-soul/pop-soul EP which flows effortlessly from track to track until it reaches a staggering climax in “Giving You All My Love”, the ultimate cherry on the top to a really solid project from Amber, really looking forward to seeing what she does with her unmistakable talent in the future. Join Jasper over the airwaves from 8am on Tuesday to hear Amber break down the EP as well as give us an indication of what we can expect from her music in the future.
Wednesday see’s Jasper open the studio doors to another alternative sounding voice from the city in Soul31. Soul31 will be on air from 8am on Wednesday to discuss his relatively short stint in the music industry so far, with only four solo tracks out there has never been a better time to buy stock in Soul31. Although Soul31 definitely takes certain aspects of influence from rap and hip hop, his unique, husky sonic profile definitely makes for an interesting mix in sound and styles. Soul31 really does reach to each end of the musical spectrum in order to manufacture a musical style that is completely original to himself, when he’s rapping he has similar tone of voice as Bugzy Malone (no, seriously, go listen) but when he’s singing the hooks, he sounds more like The Rag n’ Bone man or Maverick Sabre. If you haven’t already, Soul31’s 4 solo tracks are definitely worth checking out, I can guarantee you haven’t heard music like his coming out of Manchester. Join us over the airwaves from 8am on Wednesday to hear him chat more about his unique style and when we can expect an EP, or even an album.
