Lupe Fuentes
DJ; producer; record label owner; radio show host: Lupe Fuentes is a multi-talented electronic artist of the very highest order. With productions dropping on highly-respected global imprints such as Lost Records, Simma Black, Mad Tech, Todd Terry’s Inhouse, Nervous and her own In The Loop, she can now count the likes of Dubfire, Loco Dice,Nicole Moudaber, Maceo Plex, Booka Shade, Claude Vonstroke, John Digweed, Leftfield, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Kerri Chandler, Riva Starr, Joseph Capriati, Marco Carola, Carl Cox and way more amongst her many advocates and supporters.
Drawing from her cultural roots in Columbia, Lupe has created a musical identity for herself that’s both timeless and refreshing. Her blend of stripped back tech-house with subtle hints of Latin rhythms and tribal percussion transform into dance floor anthems, casting the eyes and ears of industry leaders upon her, with her rise from obscurity to prominence nothing short of remarkable. Over the course of little more than two years, Lupe has released more than 30 records, more than a dozen of which have hit the top ten genre charts in Traxsource and top 100 in Beatport.
In 2014, Lupe launched her very own imprint, In the Loop, a platform for the crisp hi-hats and dark, groovy baselines, which have become the crux of her sound. In addition to her own releases, In the Loop showcases burgeoning talent, with A Lister, Zombie Disco Squad , S.Chu, Vanilla Ace, Santero, Tom Foolery, Jack Cousteau, Francis Kasibante and Paolo Solo just some of the names making up the ever-growing roster. Most recently a remix of Lupe’s ‘1000 Watts’ was landed from industry legend Kerri Chandler, who has been a firm supporter of Lupe and her music from the very start.
Now residing in Los Angeles, Lupe remains a fixture on the US club circuit, commanding the dance floors of the country’s top nightclubs including a residency at Hollywood’s famed Sound Nightclub, Exchange LA, Pacha NYC and Las Vegas’ Drai’s After Hours to name a few. Keeping only the best company behind the decks, Lupe has performed alongside legends such as Roger Sanchez, Felix Da Housecat, Harry Romero, Prok and Fitch, Amine Edge and Dance, Jesse Rose, Oliver Dollar, Doorly, Sander Kleinenberg, Junior Sanchez and more.
In 2015 Lupe launched In The Loop Radio, a weekly radio show mixed by Lupe and carefully selected guests and syndicated to more than 15 countries around the world. Her latest venture is a natural progression of the show, with 2016 seeing the launch of her own radio station, Subdustrial, on Dash Radio.
Subdustrial is a 24/7 radio station focused strictly on underground dance music and is curated solely by Lupe. Each week, you can expect to hear guest mixes from international artists and radio shows including house legends such as Todd Terry, and Claptone, DJ Sneak, Chus & Ceballos, Roger Sanchez, Boris and the Defected In The House radio show, as well as Lupe herself. Dash Radio has created a multichannel network of radio stations where the world’s leading DJs have complete control. The result is a curated and communal experience where real DJs play music for listeners in real time, with a fanbase of well over 5 millions users and counting.
There is no doubt, Lupe’s innate talent and passion for music is paramount to her success: she truly channels house music and all for which it stands. “I don’t do this for any other reason, other than my love of house music” she says. “I love to DJ and I’m compelled daily to produce. Be it one person on the dancefloor or 50,000, I’ll make sure they feel like I’m playing just for them”.
