Unity Radio’s Hip Hop Digi Factory, and Bare Noize Records, welcomed KRS One to the Unity Hangar, in a celebration of Hip Hop Culture hosted by Unity’s DJ Roesh, alongside music students, and the City’s finest BBOYs and Graffiti writers, all keen to hear the Rap legend share, ‘The Truth about Hip Hop’.
In this first episode, Lawrence Parker, AKA Blast Master KRS One, talks about ‘Defining Moments’ in his life as, he shares a first-hand account and concise history of Hip Hop, including the socio-political circumstances surrounding New York’s Black youth community which, gave birth to the urban creativity and expression, which would eventually spread across the world like wildfire.
KRS One, recounts his youth , the famous block party’s held by Kool Herc, his meeting and union with Youth Worker Scott Sterling, who he met as a homeless man on the streets, and the fall of Boogie Down Productions following the labels disappointment at sales of ‘Sex and Violence’.
KRS One, also goes on to pay homage to real Hip Hoppers, such as Guru and Dj Premier, who embraced the sound of Boom Bap and which brought a resurgence in Graffiti and BBOY community’s, shedding a mainstream spotlight on NYC, in the face of West Coast fever.
