The NGY Crew talk on their course highlights so far & reflect on their Masterclass with DJ Statik!
Amy, Angel, Cade, Darren, Mimi and Sam took over Unity Radio to share their experiences on their radio-training course. The NGY crew each reviewed a recent set performed by the award-winning Manchester artist, DJ Statik. The group were unanimous in their praise of the performance with Angel remarking on the technical ability of Statik while Sam said he was ‘one of a kind.’ The group were all extremely grateful for the experience and ranked it positively on their list of highlights.
NGY went on to discuss their thoughts on the course as a whole so far. The training on offer is expansive and everyone was thrilled with the opportunities they have had to be on the radio and learn about the craft. For many of them – including Sam and Darren – interviewing was a particular highlight, offering them a chance to learn, meet new people and even make new friends. In fact that has been a bright spark of the whole experience. Not only have they picked up new skills but they’ve made great connections too.

The NGY crew (Next Gen Youths) are a group of young people who travel from across the city every week to attend radio-training workshops and deliver a live radio show on the North’s leading youth music radio station, Unity Radio.
They join together, while dealing with their own issues, to produce a weekly radio show. This includes music, features and information on an array of issues that affect young people; such as mental health and wellbeing, education, training, employment and awareness of risks to young people. By creating peer-to-peer education and social scaffolding, they are helping to increase resilience among young people while safeguarding the vulnerable and at risk.
