About The Children Society
The Children’s Society is a national charity that runs local services helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable, and have nowhere left to turn. The charity has worked in Greater Manchester since 1889.
Its current work includes services for children who run away from home or care, support for children in foster homes and residential care, and support for those affected by domestic and sexual abuse. It also provides emotional and mental health support and works with young refugees and asylum-seeking children and their families. Last year The Children’s Society helped almost 5,000 children and young people in Greater Manchester and reached nearly 3,500 more through awareness-raising work.
The charity campaigns for changes to laws affecting children and young people, to stop the mistakes of the past being repeated in the future. Its supporters and fundraisers around the country, including in Greater Manchester, help to sustain its services, provide vital volunteering support and join the charity’s campaigns to show children and young people it is on their side. Volunteers also play a crucial role in helping to staff The Children’s Society’s 100-plus charity shops, including eight in Greater Manchester.
