StillMCR Founder Ceej talks Street Heat 4, Manchester’s Musical Roots and the Azimuth Project | Interview w/Kai Jasper
Since its beginnings as a blog page in 2012, StillMCR has grown into one of Greater Manchester’s most recognised platforms for local music. What started with founder Ceej sharing events and tracks from friends has since evolved into a hub for articles, interviews, and live showcases that highlight the city’s vibrant creative scene.
Ceej reflected on the platform’s journey and her latest work on Street Heat 4. She revealed how she curated the StillMCR stage, designed to spotlight some of her favourite Mancunian artists at the North West’s largest hip-hop festival. For Ceej, it was not only about creating a stage but also giving back to the community that shaped her love of music.
In addition to her work on Street Heat 4, Ceej played an important role in The Azimuth Project this August. The initiative focused on preserving Manchester’s musical heritage by digitising old cassette tapes, ensuring rare recordings are not lost to time including the legandary radio show ‘Buss Diss’ hosted by the iconic Stu Allan.
Ceej described the process as both challenging and rewarding, sharing how crate digging led her to uncover hidden gems from the city’s past. She also highlighted the significance of archiving in the digital era, stressing the importance of making Manchester’s cultural history accessible for future generations.
With projects like Street Heat 4 and The Azimuth Project, Ceej continues to strengthen Manchester’s reputation as a powerhouse of creativity, bridging the city’s musical roots with its ever evolving future.
