Celebrating Black History on Unity Radio w/ Knights BBQ, Manasseh Jones & More!
Monday 27th – Friday 31st October, on Prime Time 7-10am & 4-7pm we celebrated Black History.
Kai Jasper was joined by special guests from across Greater Manchester’s Black Community, representing Music, Fashion, Food, Culture & History.
Check out the Interviews below:
Manasseh Joseph, a talented dance and vocal teacher, stage performer, and founder of Level Up Performance Academy. Through her work, Manasseh empowers women and teenagers to embrace confidence and emotional wellbeing through the art of healing movement. Her mission is to create spaces where people can reconnect with their power and authenticity.
Kai was also joined in the studio by a very special guest his mother, Sarah Jasper. Sarah shared heartfelt reflections from the See My World Festival, offering powerful stories of heritage, resilience, and family. Together, Kai and Sarah explored their own family history and reflected on what Black History Month truly means to them.
Adding flavour to the conversation, Kai welcomed Raqeem, owner of Nights BBQ, a community-rooted Caribbean food business that has become a local favourite. Raqeem spoke about his journey from a young chef to successful restaurateur, the influence of Caribbean culture on British society, and the importance of keeping community roots alive through food. They also speak on the Hurricane Melissa crisis in Jamaica, urging everyone to reach out, support, and stay connected to family back home.
Rounding out the week, Kai connected with Lydia Laru, one of Manchester’s rising voices in R&B and Afrobeats. Their discussion delved into music, creativity, and the role of cultural identity in shaping artistic expression. Lydia shared her experiences as an emerging artist and her vision for using music to inspire connection across communities.
Through these conversations, Kai Jasper celebrates not only the achievements of Black and mixed-heritage individuals, but also the power of culture to heal, inspire, and unite. This Black History Month, their stories remind us that progress is not just about honouring the past, it’s about empowering the future.
