The Mile Shy Club discuss the Charity’s History and how to get involved! Interview w/ The New Talent Academy
The Mile Shy Club charity founder, Jane Dennison, joined ‘The New talent Academy’
to talk about the organisation and how those aiming to improve their fitness can get involved!
The club has eleven different walking and running groups dotted in and around Manchester,
mainly run by volunteers who feel passionately about getting more people on their feet!
The Mile Shy Club beginner walking and running groups can be found across Trafford,
mainly in Sale, Urmston, Old Trafford, Partington, Stratford and the Trafford Centre.
Their mission is simple, to make running accessible to everyone and to take the scariness out of the sport.
The running clubs aim to help those on board complete their first 5K, regularly running the Couch to 5k programme,
whilst the walking clubs serve to help people with long-term health conditions walk up to a mile.
On top of encouraging, coaching and inspiring thousands of people to get back on their feet,
the charity also gives back to community in any way they can. Back in 2021, TMSC teamed up with England Athletics
and delivered mental health training to running clubs across the country and have spoken at multiple events
about the benefits of getting up and into running. They have also partnered with local Slimming World clubs
to help members with all aspects of their health and fitness and now host Sale’s annual Santa Dash,
raising money for fellow charities Stockdales, Prostate Cancer UK and Papyrus UK.
