MENNIS UKs emerging rap artist talks to Maya Dailva about his brand new album, song influences and upcoming events.
Mennis is from centre Chorlton where the middle class artsy-artsy vegan and animal loving population is explicably intertwined with some of the most poverty stricken and roughest estates in Manchester are. He has been an integral part of the Manchester underground grime scene since 2005, selling mix-tapes on Market Street in Manchester’s town centre. He’s has worked with Deeco the legendary grime producer who has worked with the likes of JME, Wiley and more.
Dennis comes from Grime background but creates tunes that go beyond that genre that end up describe his style as non-conforming this means he can be flexible within his genre. When he’s started writing at the age of 14 he went to an underground community event and felt brave so he started spitting. His first Mixtape was grime and hip-hop based and sample stuff, mostly when he’s creating music he goes on a 140 beat naturally but likes to play round with style just as much. His single Sunshine with Tyler Daley isn’t under the grime genre but Nokia a Decco production made 2 weeks earlier is all grime and ‘mucky’ meaning he does what he wants within the genre.
