Tuesday 29th March / Porij
On Tuesday morning we open our doors to Porij; an enthralling, dynamic and entirely versatile 4-piece band from Manchester. The band have dipped their feet in to many different sounds over the years they have been releasing music, spanning from indie rock sonics to liquid drum and bass, the Mancunian bands versatility is something that cannot be understated. At the back end of 2020, Porij received a tip of the hat from The Guardian and have since gone from strength to strength in the industry, mastering their sound as they did so. Their latest release and first of 2022 “Figure Skating” is a magical turn of events for the band, as they ditch the indie-sleaze induced pop rock sound for liquid drum and bass/jungle. At first, it is natural to be apprehensive of the new venture but as the soft vocals fade in and sit beautifully over the free-flowing production, it’s clear to see the talent coursing through the band’s veins. Thursday see’s Jasper Hopkins interview another exciting young talent from Manchester, July 7. Blending aspects of dancehall and R&B, July 7 is a jack of all trades and this is evident throughout most of his half-decade-spanning career in the music industry. As the weather starts to heat up, July 7 is the perfect candidate to provide the sonics to go with the sun. July 7 possesses an organic bounce and beautifully unique tone of voice, the high-pitched delivery and crooning littered throughout his music makes for an unmistakable sound, something completely original in the local Mancunian scene. On the 25th of February, July 7 released his first EP since 2018 named “Rendezvous @ 7”, a project that perfectly demonstrates July’s skillset as an artist. Spearheaded by wonderfully catchy and intoxicating dance-hall effort “The Way I Do”, the project is a refreshing palette cleanser from a majority of Manchester releases and well worth a listen. In addition to this week’s guests, Jasper will be interviewing a huge name in the UK rap scene! Fresh off his early March album release in “Reason to Smile”, Kojey Radical will be joining us over Zoom to discuss the new project ahead of his upcoming headline show, in none other than the iconic Manchester venue Albert Hall on 6th April.
