Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica on 28 October 2025 as a powerful Category 5 storm, the strongest in the nation’s history. The destruction has been immense: homes lost, infrastructure ruined, power wiped out for most of the island, and thousands displaced into emergency shelters.
But for anyone who loves Black music, Jamaica’s pain hits close to home. This island has given the world so much: Reggae, Dub, Dancehall and inspired entire genres like Jungle, Drum & Bass, Grime, Dubstep, 2-Tone, and Hip Hop. The sound-system culture, bass-heavy production, toasting, dub mixing, and even the slang and fashion, all trace back to Jamaica’s creative genius.
Every time we play a reggae baseline, sample a ragga vocal, or shout “rewind!”, we’re echoing Jamaica. That connection runs deep, and now it’s time to give something back.
Jamaica urgently needs support to recover from Hurricane Melissa. You can donate through official and trusted sources such as the International Red Cross appeal for Jamaica.
Every contribution, big or small, helps rebuild homes, restore power, and bring hope to communities in need. So while we keep spinning the tunes and celebrating the culture, let’s also stand in solidarity with the people who built the very foundations of our sound.
Donate if you can, share the message, and help Jamaica rise again.
