Hip Hop 50 Youth Workshops!
As part of the 50th yr anniversary, Unity Radio, are excited to be delivering a whole host of Hip Hop workshops at Spinningfields.
Starting on Monday 14th August, and running each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the remainder of the month, experienced professional facilitators will be working with participants to explore and develop the next generation of young DJ’s, Breakdancers, Graffiti artists, and Fashion designers skills and confidence through the aptly named ‘The Elements’ Summer programme. Funded by Manchester City Council’s MCRActive HAF (Holiday Activity Fund) and aimed at 11-16 yr olds.
From 9.45 to 2.30 pm daily, activities will include graffiti spray-paint mural design and large scale painting with pro’s, sneaker customisation with Benji Bluntshank with shoes provided by Adidas and paints and brushes materials by Sneakers ER, sustainable fashion with 90’s Hip Hop inspired fashion brand GBadebo, DJing and Rap sessions with DJ Basha, all taking place amongst the exhibits, encouraging young people to embrace their creativity whilst learning about the city’s hyper-local history and true essence of the culture.
Sessions are FREE to all young Manchester residents signed up on the www.mcractive.com website. Spaces are limited, and free lunch is provided for those eligible. Beyond being a repository of Manchester’s Hip Hop legacy, the Archive aims to foster education and research. It offers a valuable resource for scholars and enthusiasts seeking to understand the social, cultural, and political dimensions of Hip Hop’s impact on the city. By documenting the scene’s history and evolution, it contributes to a deeper appreciation of the genre’s significance within the broader context of British and global Hip Hop culture.
Additionally, pioneer hosted introductions to the collection, adult workshops, brand pop-ups and symposiums, with the likes of Benji Bluntshank, Gbadabo, StreetHeat and Madface, will all be taking place during the residency.
