DJ Salvage
I’m good. Thank you. Pleasure to be involved. I’m excited to be here.
The NGY Show
Can you explain to us when you first found your passion for music?
DJ Salvage
Yeah, I think my passion for music. Me and my partner, we both really got into music at a very young age. Through family friends, a lot of my family a very musical. A lot my family of vocalists or producer’s so I kind of got sucked into it that way from a young age. I was a drummer for bands, I’ve done a lot of gigging and touring, we’ve done work for contracts with Sony at one point. I was in a band and then gradually over the years as I’ve got a little bit older, I fell in love with electronic music production and from there on I found the love and passion for Drum & Bass.
The NGY Show
What made you want to become a DJ?
DJ Salvage
What really got my attention was, I think it was just turning up to an event once when I was young, seeing a big name DJ perform live. I was just blown away I wanted to know how and what it took to learn how to do that and to juggle beats and blend and yeah, just move and flow with the crowd and get everyone hype. So yeah, that was kind of that. It was actually Andy C at metropolis. many moons ago I think it was like 2008.
The NGY Show
Can you explain to us what you do in the DJ job?
DJ Salvage
on the DJ point is basically just getting the music or it out knowing what people why more to the point playing with you like as well because it you like it, you’re enjoying yourself and other people are going to see that and enjoy you and get into the music as well. A lot of networking, a lot socialising getting out there getting your name out there. Social media at the moment is like the main place to be back when we were growing up. It was always been at the events been seen to be heard handing out demos handing out mixtapes, and yeah, working your way up the ladder and just being you being true to you. And being a character all the people can connect with as well on stage and off stage, which is, you know, dots. Yeah, in sales, a lot of long hours a lot long travel involved is worth it is worth it. Because the atmosphere is a dream job for people. So it’s what we inspire, to really just trying to make a career or it takes a lot of hard work. Nowadays, it’s luxurious about being a DJ. Nowadays, you have to be kind of delve in a lot of running a record label and artist management and producing learning how to produce yourself, which is a whole craft in itself, which again, can open up many other doorways to or the direction in which you want to kind of trouble within the music industry if you chose to. Yeah, DJing is just one part of a grander screen move over jobs that we all do, I suppose as musicians, we all do loads of different things.
The NGY Show
How did your family react to you wanting to pursue music?
DJ Salvage
My family have always been very supportive of it. Again, we all come from a very creative background. A lot of them are musicians so they understand that, you know, it’s a roller coaster of a journey. And yeah, you know, we you know, I myself still work full time as well as doing on music. So you just got to find the balance. And the be happy to be concerned. Supposed to be concerned with what you’re working towards and give it your all.
The NGY Show
Please describe to us how it felt and how it affected you. When the COVID pandemic broke out?
DJ Salvage
our current pandemic. It’s, I think it’s Yeah, it’s been it’s been a struggle for definitely, I think mentally. For a lot people. It’s been a struggle. I actually, in the first lockdown, I’m not gonna lie, I think Cabin Fever really sat in at some point and yeah, usually it was a struggle. And yeah, it’s people’s livelihoods is important as well. It’s been affected massively, you know, there’s only so much you can do in terms of releasing music and generating an income from merchandise and so far we’ve been able to perform the bookings is a major part of that industry. And that livelihood so yeah, standard livings have dropped rapidly. So please just everyone’s know happy that we seem to be on the right road now to to get him back to normality again. And getting back into the clubs, venues No, and festivals and all that lovely, good stuff. So yeah, brilliant. It’s been a it’s been an emotional roller coaster for what people think what we’ve all got together. And we’ve all been in the same boat. Yeah, stop supporting each other through these dark times.
The NGY Show
Could you tell us all about your favourite experience as a DJ?
DJ Salvage
I think some of my favourite experiences travelling abroad seen overseas over cultures. That’s been amazing. I’ve managed to see some really interesting places over the years to the purse. Greece, Portugal, you know, it really don’t. That exciting has been amazing. But at the same time, you know, I think I’ve played in small underground venues. And, you know, the intimacy is just a whole different balls. And yeah, I think all aspects of it really, whether it’s a big major form, or if it’s just a small underground venue, there’s enjoyment to be found at whatever level you’re DJing, that sort of thing. It’s a great job. It’s a dream job.
